Join us on a voyage through time of the art, history & making of stained glass windows. Follow this art from its obscure origins in the dark ages, its glorious flowering in Medieval times, to its fall and decline, and then joyful rebirth in the 20th C.
November 12th: Rose Windows: An Eternal Light
From ancient stone wheel windows set with coloured glass to magnificent Medieval spectacles of colour to contemporary masterpieces, rose windows are incomparable. Learn about their unique symbolic, architectural language and timeless spirit.
November 19th: Wind’s Eye: Artists in Stained Glass
In every era, there have been artists who breathed new life into stained glass through vision and innovation. Tiffany, Burne-Jones, Chagall, Matisse, Schaffrath, Ferron and Williams among many others charted brilliant new direction and technical wizardry.
November 26th: The Woman in the Window: A Journey with Mary
On this journey, we accompany Mary, a Jewish mother revered by Christians and Muslims alike, through a millennium of stained glass imagery. From a monumental Byzantine goddess to a gentle mother figure, to the powerful mother of God, we see Mary anew.
All talks take place from 2:00 to 3:30 pm in the Prince Edward Room at The Waring House, 395 Sandy Hook Rd, Picton
